USA from Pine, Colorado in the beautiful South Platte River
Valley of Central Colorado. Our property borders Jefferson County
Open Space Park which borders Pike National Forest. The Open Space
Park contains a small lake which is a trout fish hatchery.
This area in the Rocky Mountains is called the banana belt because the temperatures
are milder than other areas. What a pleasure it is to live in the "banana
belt". We receive less than an inch of snow in our area, while
points east and west get considerably more. The weather can also
vary considerably when driving the 285 corridor. For instance,
Denver could be overcast while we enjoy sunny skies!
There are many "banana belts" in the state: microclimates
where less snow falls than in surrounding areas. The reasons are
varied. In our case, we're in the middle of a range of mountains
and foothills that "capture" much of the snow before it
can fall on us. If you're familiar with Wyoming's Great Basin, think
of the Pine, Colorado area as a miniature version.
